There was shock around the world when Bangladesh's popular opener Tamim Iqbal had a sudden heart attack.  Fans have been anxiously waiting for updates, and now, an official statement from his Facebook page has shed light on the terrifying moments leading up to his medical emergency.

The official page for Tamim says that he first felt pain in his chest before the game against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP.  He even went to the toss because he thought the pain was from acidity or gastric issues.

"After the toss, he experienced mild chest pain and immediately informed the team’s physio and trainer. Initially, it was suspected to be a gastric problem, so he took medication. However, when the discomfort didn’t subside, he was taken to the nearest hospital for a precautionary check-up," the statement read.

After the first treatment, Tamim went back to the pitch and hoped to keep playing.  However, his health quickly got worse.  When that happened, the Mohammedan Sporting Club's managers chose to send him to a better hospital by helicopter as an emergency.

"As his condition worsened, alternative measures were considered. After discussions with the team manager, arrangements were made to airlift him to Dhaka for better treatment. However, the situation became more critical, and he had to be rushed to KPJ Specialized Hospital instead," the statement further revealed.

At KPJ Specialised Hospital, doctors did an emergency ultrasound that showed that his heart artery was severely blocked.  An angioplasty and a stent (ring) were put in his heart to get the blood flow back to normal.  He is being closely watched in the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital right now.

Fans were also asked to pray for Tamim's quick healing so that he can get back to living a healthy life soon.
