Tamim Iqbal, a veteran opener for Bangladesh, was released from Evercare Hospital in Dhaka and has gone home. A huge heart attack happened to the 36-year-old cricket player on March 24 during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game. He had an emergency angioplasty and a tube put in his heart.
On March 28, Tamim was freed from intensive medical care after four days of treatment. This was a big step in his healing.
After having chest pain during a DPL match on March 24, Tamim Iqbal was first taken to KPJ Hospital in Savar. On the way, he had a heart attack, so doctors had to do CPR and DC shock before they could do an angioplasty and put in a stent.
After being watched for two days in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at KPJ Hospital, Tamim was moved to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on March 26 for more testing and care.
On March 27, doctors at Evercare Hospital told Tamim's family that he was safe, responding well to treatment, and would soon be able to leave the hospital. After a day, he was finally freed and could go back home.
Even though Tamim has fully recovered from his recent health scare, it is still unclear when he will be able to play cricket again. Doctors have told him that his long-term health will rest on making changes to his habits, getting regular check-ups, and doing cardiac rehabilitation.
The cardiac team at the hospital will check on him again in three to four months to see if he is ready to play competitive cricket again.
