Australia on top after day 1 in Oval test. The first two sessions were shared by both teams but the last one belonged to the visitors as they wrapped up England for 283 and they have already scored 61 after losing one.

Earlier the day, skipper Cummins won the very firs toss in this series and chose to bowl first under cloudy condition. England started off to a flier. Courtesy Ben Duckett for his fearless batting England and helped England reach 62 on opening stand where the majority of the scoring has been from Duckett. Mitchell Marsh came with the first breakthrough as he sent Duckett packing for a brisk 41 off 41 balls. The next breakthrough came from the Aussie skipper himself Pat Cummins as he got the wicket of Zak Crawley.

Josh Hazlewood then knocked over Joe Root for a measly 5 off 11. Moeen Ali and Harry Brook then kept the ship going and added 111 runs before Todd Murphy got rid of Moeen Ali. Harry Brook got a life earlier of his innings and made a serious 85 off 91 balls before falling to Mitchell Starc. The left arm seamer then ran riot through the English batting lineup. An absolute peach got rid of Stokes and then trimmer the tail comfortably and wrapped up England's innings for 283. Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 4 wickets, Todd Murphy and Hazlewood struck twice, while Cummins and Marsh had one solitary apiece.

In reply of 283, Warner and Khawaja gave Australia a decent start. The openers added 49 runs to the tally before Warner yet again threw his wicket away after having a fine start. Australia are now 61-1 and are trailing England by 222 runs. They surely will be looking for a big total and have some lead for the advantage of this test match.
