Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered another major blow in the form of Pacer Sisanda Magala's injury, head coach Stephen Fleming has confirmed.
Sisanda Magala will miss at least the next three Chennai Super Kings games in IPL 2023. The fast bowler injured his finger while taking Ravichandran Ashwin's catch during the recently concluded Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals game at MA Chidamabaram Stadium.
CSK are already suffering from injuries to Kyle Jamieson, Mukesh Choudhary, Deepak Chahar and Ben Stokes. According to the latest developments, Magala bowled just two overs before leaving the field due to a split ligament during the match against Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday April 12.
"For us it's like that again, losing another player - that's two games in a row - and we're pretty thin already so we'd like it injuries to stop. Unfortunately, Magala's hand was split so he couldn't throw those final two overs. And the same with Deepak Chahar in the last game, so we're working with pretty thin resources. But we're not the only team that has that," Fleming confirmed after the climax of the game, as quoted.
Sri Lanka's Matheesha Pathirana is likely to replace Sisanda Magala in the active XI in the next game. Pathirana tested positive for COVID-19 in New Zealand but he has now recovered. The Sri Lankan pacer made his CSK debut last year and wowed fans with his bowling performance.
It will be interesting to see whether Pathirana will play his first game of the IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. CSK fans would hope Ben Stokes is also an option.
