Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has made a fuss over the formation of the team recently. Finally, in a new interview, he has tried to keep the Kolkata boss at bay.
Kolkata, who lost the rhythm in the middle of the ongoing tournament, did a lot of experiment with the team to find the right team combination for themselves. At the end of the match against Mumbai Indians on May 9, Shreyas was questioned about so many changes and experiments in the XI.
In response, Shreyas said, "It is really difficult because I was also in that position once when I started playing the IPL. We discussed with the coaches and obviously, the CEO is also involved in team selection so especially, Baz (Brendon McCullum), he goes to the players and tells them. To be honest, all of them are very supportive in the decision making and the way they turn up to the ground and support each and every individual, it is something to be proud of as captain and I am really happy with how we played today,"
And that's when the controversy arose. CEO Venky Mysore's role in the selection of the team or the formation of the XI - Shreyas's remarks sparked a storm of criticism over Kolkata's team management. There are also claims that the owner is interfering in the team management. Sunil Gavaskar even criticized the issue. Michael Vaughan did criticism too.
Shreyas did not remain silent after seeing so much criticism and controversy. After the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he claimed, Mysore consoled the cricketers who were dropped from the XI.
"And also I want to clarify from the last interview, when I took CEO's name, I wanted basically to say that he is there to console the players who are sitting out, it is really tough for us as well when we select the team, so yeah," Shreyas said at the post-match presentation after the game against SunRisers Hyderabad on Saturday.
