Shakib shines as Galle Titans register super-over win

Shakib Al Hasan's team Galle Titans defeated Dambulla Aura in the super-over in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) on Monday (July 31). Both the teams put up a total of 180 runs and then the match went into super-over. Shakib made an important contribution to the victory of the team with bat and ball.
Dambulla won the toss and sent Galle to bat first at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Galle got off to a good start. Bhanuka Rajapaksa's blistering 48 along with Shakib's 23 and Shanaka's destructive innings of 42 led Galle to a mammoth 180.
Dambulla started very shakily in the chase. Two openers Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando were dismissed within 2 runs of the team. Then Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Perera led the team. The team's innings was strengthened by the fierce batting of the two. Both were on their way to fifty. But no one could reach there. Dhananjaya played an innings of 43 runs from 31 balls. On the other hand, Kusal scored 40 runs off 25 balls.
After that, Dambulla's dream of winning faded away. But Alex Ross and Hayden Kerr kept trying late on. Kerr was dismissed for 20 off 10 balls but Ross continued to fight till the end. Dambulla needed 16 runs to win in the last over. Finally, Ross tied the match by taking 15 runs. Dambulla's innings also stopped at 180 after losing 7 wickets at the end of 20 overs.
Shakib was also brilliant with the ball. He took one wicket at the cost of 25 runs in 4 overs. Dasun Shanaka took 3 wickets for 19 runs.
Then the two teams entered the field in the super-over fight. Kushal Perera, Hayden Kerr, and Alex Ross came into bat for Dambulla. Dambulla scored 9 runs after losing 1 wicket in 1 over. Kasun Rajitha bowled for Galle. Galle chased this run in just 3 balls. Rajapaksa hit a four and a six to pick up a thrilling win for Galle in the super-over.
