New Zealand continued their domination in World Cup with another comprehensive victory against Netherlands on Monday (9th October) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Collective efforts from the Kiwi batters helped them to post a mountainous 322 on the board. Mitchell Santner's excellent fifer restricted Netherlands to 223 and won it for New Zealand by 99 runs.
Earlier the day, Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl first. They were very tight from the start with 3 maidens in a row. And then Young and Conway opened up their scoring note. Conway scored 32 off 40 balls and fell to Van Der Marwee. Will Young after getting a duck in the previous game he got his mojo back and scored a fantastic 70 off 80 deliveries and laid the platform for New Zealand.
Rachin Ravindra kept his form on and made a brilliant 51 off 51, while Daryl Mitchell scored 48 off only 47 deliveries. At the end skipper Tom Latham was quick-fire and made a breezy 53 off only 46 balls. Mitchell Santner was brutal at the end and took 23 off the final over. He smacked a decisive 36 off just 17 deliveries. With the help of late blows New Zealand posted an indomitable 322 on the board.
In reply, Netherlands stuttered earlier as they lost their openers at the start of the innings. Max ODowd was trapped LBW off Mitchell Santner. While Vikramjit Singh was knocked off by Matt Henry. Number three batter Colin Ackermann played a beautiful innings of 69 from just 73 balls before falling to Santner. Netherlands couldn’t find the rhythm and they were into the sea infront of a quality Kiwi attack. They lost the plot in the middle overs and couldn’t recover from that. Mitchell Santner was breathing fire with the ball and picked up 5 wickets and became the first New Zealand spinner to take a fifer in World Cup. And eventually Netherlands were bowled out for 223 and lost the match by 99 runs. With the win New Zealand now the table topper of this World Cup and leading the tournament with two thumping wins.
