Former Indian captain Virat Kohli brought the best out of himself in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 tournament, wherein he shattered multiple records. The right-handed batsman batted with finesse and bravery throughout the tournament and ended up as the leading run-getter. 

Virat Kohli finished WC 2023 with 765 runsVirat Kohli aggregated 765 runs in 11 games, the most by a batsman in a single edition of the World Cup. He maintained a staggering batting average of 95.62, slamming 3 centuries and 6 fifties to his name, a record that will remain intact for several years to come. 

Meanwhile, West Indies batting great Brian Lara reserved the highest respect for Virat Kohli for the way he approached the game and went about his business in the competition. India's run-machine also broke Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 49 centuries in ODIs. 

Virat Kohli brought up his 50th ODI century during the group stage game against South Africa. "First of all, for Virat Kohli... I know a lot of people will say or have already said that it (Kohli’s performance) does not matter as India did not win the World Cup. Team sport is about winning and you, as an individual player, have to have that as your No.1 target," the former West Indies captain expressed his thoughts while presenting the Tiger Pataudi Memorial Lecture at The Bhawanipur Education Society College.

"But a subsidiary of team success is individual success, and that is what Kohli has given India match after match throughout the World Cup. What impresses me most about Kohli is his true legacy... For, he has changed the face of cricket and how you prepare for the game. The discipline that he has stands out, always," he further added.

Virat Kohli has a few more years of cricket left in him, taking his fitness parameters into account and will be looking forward to helping the team win the World Cup in the future.
