Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are making bold moves ahead of the 2025 IPL season. According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, SRH will retain South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen for a whopping INR 23 Crore (approximately USD 2.74 million). This staggering sum will make Klaasen SRH's top retention as they gear up for the highly anticipated mega auction later this year.
Klaasen had an impressive IPL 2024 campaign, where he scored 479 runs at a strike rate of 171.07, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer for his side. His explosive batting made him one of the key players for SRH, and the franchise is now investing heavily in keeping the South African powerhouse in their ranks for the 2025 season.
Along with Klaasen, SRH is also set to retain Australian captain and fast bowler Pat Cummins, who will continue as captain for IPL 2025. Cummins had a productive IPL 2024, picking up 18 wickets in 16 matches and proving his worth as a leader.
Indian opener Abhishek Sharma is another name on SRH's retention list. Abhishek played a pivotal role for the team in IPL 2024, finishing as their top scorer with 567 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 191.55. His aggressive batting at the top of the order, combined with his versatility, makes him a crucial asset for the franchise.
The IPL has set October 31 as the deadline for finalizing player retentions, ahead of the mega auction that will take place later this year. SRH's strategy includes keeping key players like Klaasen, Cummins, and Abhishek Sharma to build a strong foundation for the 2025 season. In addition to these three, the 2016 IPL champions are also expected to retain Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy, further strengthening their squad.
