The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) could soon witness a significant reunion as former India head coach Rahul Dravid is reportedly on the verge of rejoining the team ahead of the IPL 2025 season. This potential move comes amidst reports that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is considering Kumar Sangakkara, the current RR coach and director of cricket, for their vacant white-ball coaching position.

There is a lot of talk about Sangakkara leaving the Rajasthan Royals since Matthew Mott quit as England's white-ball coach not long ago. Sangakkara's strong ties to important figures in England's cricket setup, including white-ball captain Jos Buttler, are reportedly attracting interest from the ECB for the job.

Rahul Dravid, who initially coached the Rajasthan Royals before taking on the role of India’s head coach, has been linked with a return to the IPL franchise as his tenure with the Indian national team nears its end. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) extended Dravid's contract until the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup, and with that stint over, the door appears open for a return to the IPL.

A recent report from Cricbuzz has spread these rumors even more, saying that Dravid's return to the Rajasthan Royals is very possible, especially if Sangakkara moves to the England team. When asked about his possible move to England, Sangakkara stayed calm and said “Well, I know my name has been mentioned for some reason, but there has not been any approach as such. I think the England white-ball job is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are so many good candidates out there. I am very happy at the moment. The Rajasthan Royals experience has been very fulfilling, and it has been a job I have really enjoyed over the last four years.” via English media.
