Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially approved the hosting of the Global Super League in Guyana, scheduled to take place from November 26 to December 7. The tournament will feature five teams from five different nations, with a total prize pool of 1 million USD.
Among the five teams, Guyana Amazon Warriors will represent the West Indies after winning the 2023 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Teams from England, Australia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are also set to participate. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Hampshire, a three-time T20 Blast champion from England, will compete in the Global Super League.
Initially, Fortune Barishal, the current Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions, were eligible to represent Bangladesh. However, they recently announced that they would not be able to form a team within the given time frame. Comilla Victorians, the BPL 2023 runners-up, have also opted out of participation in the upcoming BPL season, leaving an opening for Rangpur Riders, one of the BPL semifinalists, to take their place in this international tournament.
BCB president Faruque Ahmed confirmed the news following a board meeting on October 7, saying, "Rangpur Riders, one of the semifinalists, are likely to participate in Guyana’s upcoming tournament."
The Global Super League will run from November 26 to December 7, featuring group-stage matches where all five teams will play against each other. The top two teams will then advance to the final. Interestingly, around the same time, the Bangladesh national team is scheduled to tour the West Indies for a Test series against the West Indies from November 22 to December 4, followed by three ODIs and three T20Is.
