Van Schalkwyk's first cricket appearances came at the start of the 2006–07 season for Wynberg Boys' High School on a tour of Pakistan, where he played against various Pakistani schools.

Domestic Career

Van Schalkwyk made his List A debut in February 2008 and consistently scored 17 runs from the lower order without reaching the target. He made one more appearance in List A during the season. He represented the South Africa Academy in the 2007–08 Academy Cup competition. So far this season, Van Schalkwyk has played two List A games for Western Province.

Joining the Knights in 2008/2009, he played five List A matches for the Free State amateur team and one first-class match for the Knights themselves. He was named in the Free State cricket team's squad for the 2015 Africa T20 Cup recorded.

In August 2017, he was named in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars squad for the inaugural T20 Global League season. However, in October 2017, Cricket South Africa initially postponed the tournament until November 2018, after which it was canceled shortly afterwards.

In September 2018, he was named in Free State's squad for the 2018 Africa T20 Cup. In September 2019, he was named in Free State's squad for the 2019–20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup.

In June 2021, Shadley was named to the Seattle Thunderbolts minor league cricket team. In March 2023, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Knight Riders of Major League Cricket.

International Career

In March 2024, he was named to the United States squad for their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Canada. He made his T20I debut for the USA on April 7, 2024 against Canada.
