Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has criticized Indian young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and advised him to work more with his keeping skill. 'Pant dropped more catches than any other keeper in the world'

The 23-year old Pant dropped two catches of debutant Australian opener Will Pucovski in the first day of the ongoing third Test between Australia and India at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). He also missed an easy catch of Pat Cummins in the second Test in Melbourne. Pant has been considered as the future of Indian cricket after MS Dhoni retires but he’s disappointing everyone with his performance from the start of his career. This time, Ponting, who works closely with Pant in Indian Premier League (IPL) with Delhi Capital team, also showed frustration with Pant’s performance especially with his keeping. “The one’s (dropped catches) today are two that should be taken, simple as that. It’s probably lucky for Rishabh that Pucovski didn’t go on and make a big hundred or a double hundred and looking at the wicket, it looks like an unbelievable surface,” Ponting told cricket.com.au. “I’m sure when Rishabh put those catches down, he would have thought the worst and ‘here we go, he’s really going to make me pay’ but (Pucovski) didn’t today,” Ponting added. “I’ve said it all along, the knock on Rishabh is always going to be on his keeping. Since his debut in Test cricket, he’s dropped more catches than any other keeper in the world. That highlights he has got some work to do with his keeping,” he added. Australia are all-out for 338 runs in the second day of the match. In reply, India score 26 runs before tea break without losing any wicket.
