Ben Stokes' side will open the Tour with the first Test in Rawalpindi from December 1-5 before both sides move to Multan for the second Test from December 9-13. Karachi will host the third test on December 17-21.

The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the schedule for England's Test tour of Pakistan in December this year, which will see Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi host the three-match series that counts towards the World Test Championship.

England will play a Test series in Pakistan for the first time in 17 years, with the three Tests serving as the second leg of the England tour. The first leg consists of seven T20Is to be played in Karachi and Lahore from September 20th to October 2nd.

This will be the first time England have played a Test at Rawalpindi, having previously played 12 games with the home side winning five and losing three. When England last toured Pakistan in 2005, they lost the Multan Test by 22 runs. The venue has staged five Tests with Pakistan winning three and losing one.

The National Stadium was considered Pakistan's lucky hunting ground until 2000 when Nasser Hussain's side broke Pakistan's unbeaten record of 34 Tests by winning the third Test in near darkness by six wickets. Pakistan's only other loss in 44 games in Karachi was to South Africa, who won the 2007 Test by 160 runs.

“We are delighted that the Test rivalry between Pakistan and England, which has produced tight and close matches in the past, will return to our backyard in December. Both teams have improved since their last game in Pakistan in 2005 and have recently played some entertaining and exciting cricket. I remain confident that this series will live up to the expectations of global cricket fans who want to watch and enjoy competitive and exciting matches," said Zakir Khan. PCB Director of International Cricket. said in a statement.

Clare Connor, ECB interim chief, said: “The return of our male testing team to Pakistan for the first time since 2005 will be a historic event. The opportunity to play Test cricket in front of the ardent cricket fans in Pakistan after such a long time is something to cherish.

"We have been working closely with the PCB for several months now and I am grateful to them for all they have done and continue to do to make our Test and T20 tours an exciting prospect for all involved."

England's Test tour of Pakistan schedule:

  • 1-5 December - 1st Test, Rawalpindi
  • 9-13 December - 2nd Test, Multan
