India have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup where KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have kept their place but Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krisha have been excluded from the squad which was announced for the Asia Cup 2023. Excluding these two from the 17-member squad of the Asia Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BBCA) announced the squad on Tuesday (September 5).

Jasprit Bumrah, who has returned recently with the Ireland series, has been named in the squad as he’s fully fit.

Rahul, who had surgery on his thigh, and was ruled out of the group stage matches of the Asia Cup, has been kept in the squad while Shreyas Iyer showed good fitness in the ongoing Asia Cup and he’s in the team as expected. So, India announced a most possible strong line-up for the World Cup.

Tilak Varma, who was included in the squad as a good T20I performances in his debut series, has not been considered for the World Cup. India has opted for only one specialist spinner in Kuldeep Yadav, so there is no place for Yuzvendra Chahal in the squad. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja- the two spin all-rounder will support Kuldeep in the spin bowling section.

There are three pacers (Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna) in the squad alongside the pace-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur. And in the wicket-keeping section, there are Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul.

The ODI World Cup commences on October 5 in India. India's first match will be against Australia in Chennai on October 8.
