Sri Lanka thumped Scotland by a massive margin of 82 runs on Thursday (27th June) at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
Ealrier the day, Scotland won the toss and opted to bowl first. Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka played an absolute gem of a knock of 75 off 85 deliveries. While his partnership and last match centurion Dimuth Karunaratne was gone scoring 7 only and wk batter Kusal Mendis too went cheaply scoring only 1 off 16. Samarawickrama scored 26 from 35 deliveries. But Charith Asalanka's innings at the middle gave the water in oases as he went of 63 from only 65 deliveries. Sri Lanka finished their innings with a per total of 245-10.
Chasing the total, Scotland fell into a deep sea. They lost their 3 inside powerplay including their skipper Richie Berrington. In the middle Chris Greaves played a beautiful knock of 56 off only 41 deliveries which gave some hope to Scottish camp. But other batters were absolutely numb and couldn’t cross 20 mar barrier which entirely costed them the match. Scotland finished their innings for 163-10 and lost the match by 82 runs. They were bundled inside 29 overs and the hero was Maheesh Theekshana as he picked up 3 wickets conceding only 41 in his 10 over quota. As a result, he got the man of the match award.
