Ishan Kishan, India's wicketkeeper-batsman, has opened up about the personal issues that led him to take a break from cricket, despite being a regular member of the national side in all formats. Kishan's decision was impacted by health concerns and a lack of understanding from others regarding his situation.
Kishan explained that his break was essential due to not feeling well as a player and experiencing travel fatigue after back to back matches. In an interview with the Indian Express, he revealed the difficulties he faced while being benched despite scoring runs, which contributed to his decision.
"I was scoring runs and then I found myself on the bench. These things do happen in a team sport. But I experienced travel fatigue. It meant there was something wrong, I was not feeling well or right and so I decided to take a break. However, sadly, barring my family and a few close people no one understood that." he said.
Kishan also spoke candidly about the mental health challenges he faced over the past six months. He described feelings of depression and the struggle to overcome them, highlighting the lack of understanding from those outside his immediate circle
"It was depressing. Today I don’t want to say that everything was fine. It was not easy for me at all. You go through a lot. Mere dimag mey ye sab chalta raha ki yaar kya hoga gaya, kyu ho gaya, mere saath kyu (Questions like what happened, why me). All these things happened when I was performing."
