India delivered a commanding performance to defeat Afghanistan by 47 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match on Friday, June 21, at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

India's innings were anchored by a blistering 53 from Suryakumar Yadav, who set the tone with aggressive stroke play. His efforts were complemented by a crucial cameo from Hardik Pandya, helping India post an imposing total of 181 runs on the board.

In response, Afghanistan struggled against India's bowling attack, led by the exceptional Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah's masterful bowling dismantled the Afghan batting lineup, securing a decisive victory for India. 

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan praised Jasprit Bumrah's performance, comparing it to that of the Reserve Bank of India. Pathan praised Bumrah's consistency and performance in many kinds of situations, emphasising his importance to the Indian team.

"He is like the Reserve Bank of India. He is absolutely safe. You expect him to perform when he bowls four overs in any situation. He sets up the game. How does he do that? Twelve runs had come in the first over bowled by Arshdeep (Singh), which means Afghanistan had got the momentum," he said.

Pathan further added, "He (Bumrah) came in the second over and started putting an impact as soon as he came in. The wickets he took and the way he bowled in different phases, he bowled six slower balls in the first six overs, which means he sets the bowling tone. No one sets the bowling tone better than Jasprit Bumrah in world cricket,"

Irfan Pathan noted at how Jasprit Bumrah focuses on line and length, using bouncers occasionally.

"He is the top-most in Indian bowling. He bowls good lengths. If you see his pitch map, you will get to see a cluster, the slower ones, and you will see him using the bouncer only when it's required," he said.
