After a long two months of great sacrifice, the curtain has come down on this season of Indian Premier League (IPL). All the matches full of excitement, thrill, and anxiety have been seen in this season. Many matches have been turned into last-minute dramas. Along with the flood of runs from the batters, there was also some brilliant bowling from the bowlers. Finally, Chennai Super Kings grabbed a breathtaking victory by defeating Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets in the final yesterday (May 29).
Here are the top 10 run-scorers in this year’s IPL:
1. Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans): Gill is the top run-scorer in this season. The 23-year-old batter batted outstandingly throughout the tournament, scoring 890 runs in 17 innings. Gill's bat became sharper towards the end of the season. In the last five matches, Gill scored three centuries. He scored 3 centuries and 4 fifties in total. Scored runs at an average of 59.33. The strike rate is also great, 157.80. Gill is second in the list of the most runs scored in a single event of IPL. Earlier, Virat Kohli scored 973 runs in the 2016 tournament. This is the record for highest runs scored in a single event in the history of IPL.
2. Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bangalore): Bangalore captain du Plessis is in second place. Du Plessis was always brilliant with the bat even though the team did not make it to the playoffs. 730 runs in 14 innings came from the bat of du Plessis. Although he did not see a century, he scored 8 fifties. The average is 56.15 and the strike-rate is 153.68.
3. Devon Conway (Chennai Super Kings): The opener of the champion team has been impressive throughout the season. His pairing with Ruturaj Gaikwad is also quite good. Gaikwad and Conway gave Chennai a good start in most of the matches. Conway scored 655 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.58. Although he did not get a century, he hit 6 fifties.
4. Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore): India's batting great Kohli is in the 4th place. Kohli's bat has laughed throughout the league phase. Kohli scored 2 centuries along with 6 fifties. He scored 639 runs at an average of 53.25 in 14 innings.
5. Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals): The next place belongs to Jaiswal. The young opener scored 625 runs in 14 innings at an average of 48.07. He scored a great century and 5 fifties. The strike-rate is also great- 163.61.
6. Suryakumar Yadav (Mumbai Indians): The no.1 T20I batter in the world is at number 6. This batter scored 605 runs at a strike rate of 181.13. He scored 1 century along with 5 centuries.
7. Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings): Gaikwad is in the 7th position. He scored 588 runs in 15 innings. He did not get a century but made 4 fifties.
8. David Warner (Delhi Capitals): Delhi has had a terrible season as a team this year. But captain Warner got lots of runs with the bat. He scored 516 runs in 14 innings with 6 fifties.
9. Rinku Singh (Kolkata Knight Riders): Another big surprise of the show. Rinku's amazing batting in the death overs has attracted a lot of attention in this tournament. Kolkata Knight Riders have also won many matches. Rinku scored 474 runs in 14 innings at an average of 59.25. The strike rate is also amazing, 149.52.
10. Ishan Kishan (Mumbai Indians): The opener scored 454 runs in 15 innings with three fifties.
