Bangladesh opener Saif Hassan will miss the second Test against Pakistan in Dhaka after medical tests revealed he is carrying typhoid germs.

Saif was diagnosed with typhoid even before the Bangladesh team left Chattogram for Dhaka. He travelled with the team any way but it was confirmed on Wednesday evening that he will not play any part in the upcoming Test match.

"Saif underwent laboratory tests based on symptoms and reports have confirmed that he has typhoid germs in his body," the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a release.

"The batsman is receiving treatment and will continue his recovery under the supervision of the BCB Medical Team."

Saif made scores of 14 and 18 in the first Test which the hosts lost by eight wickets. It was his sixth Test for Bangladesh since he made his debut against the same opposition in Rawalpindi in 2020.

Bangladesh have uncapped batters Naim Sheikh and Mahmudul Hasan Joy in line to partner opener Shadman Islam. Naim, who has so far played six first-class matches, was called in after the first Test loss.

To Bangladesh's relief amidst injury woes, Shakib Al Hasan and Taskin Ahmed are expected to start in Dhaka on December 4.

Bangladesh squad for second Test: Mominul Haque (captain), Shadman Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Kumar Das, Yasir Ali Rabbi, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi, Nayeem Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Khaled Ahmed, Shohidul Islam, Mohammad Naim Sheikh.
