The fifth game of IPL 2024 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) witnessed twists and turns especially in the climax. At one stage, Mumbai Indians had the game in their hands but GT bowlers such as Mohit Sharma, Rashid Khan and Umesh Yadav turned things around at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Hardik Pandya and Shubman GillGT had the last laugh in the battle as they won the game by six runs to register three wins on the trot against MI at home. Shubman Gill must be really pleased with the way how things turned out for him in his first game as captain. Batting first, GT posted 168/8 in their quota of 20 overs.
Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 45 off 39 balls (3 fours and a six). On the contrary, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for MI as he registered 3/14 in his quota of 4 overs at an exceptional economy of 3.5. In reply, MI mustered 162/9 in 20 overs. Dewald Brevis top-scored with 46 off 38 (2 fours, 3 sixes) as an Impact player.
At the post-match presentation, captain Hardik Pandya reacted to the team's defeat. "Obviously we backed ourselves to chase those 42 runs but it was one of those days when we see the score quite less compared to what it could have been in five overs, I think we lost little bit of momentum there," he added.
This isn't the first time that MI started their IPL campaign with a defeat. They will be looking forward to making a rebound in the next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on March 27, Wednesday.
"It feels good to be back because this is one stadium where you can enjoy and feel the atmosphere quite lively and obviously the crowd was full and they got a good game as well," Hardik Pandya further added.
