Abahani Limited won the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the 22nd time. Afif Hossain was seen in the role of a finisher in the unofficial final against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club yesterday. After being dropped from the national team, he got a chance to play a full season in the DPL and played a big role in making the team the champion.

Chasing 282 runs against Sheikh Jamal, Naim Sheikh, and Anamul Haque Bijoy gave Abahani a great start. And Afif finished the match in style. Afif left the field with an unbeaten 60-run innings off 53 balls.

When Afif faced the media after winning the championship, he was asked whether this DPL was a platform for him to prove himself after being left out of the national team. Afif, who is soft-spoken as always, gives a straightforward reply that he doesn't think too much.

According to Afif, “I actually don't like to think so much. I just came to play my game. I thought that I could play well. Of course, I played well. The team won. There was my contribution, I am happy.”

About his batting and preferred position, Afif added, “The pressure I batted under, all batters have to bat under such pressure to become champions. I am trying to enjoy that thing. I always like to play in the upper position.”

Afif gave a more strong response on the topic of his return to the national team with the DPL performance. He said, he prefers to stay with the present rather than thinking about the future. He will look to perform well there where he has opportunities ahead. He further said, “I never expect too much. I always like to be in the present. Here I focus on games. I will look at the games ahead.”

It should be noted that Afif has played 15 matches in this DPL. 550 runs came from his bat in 13 innings. His batting average is 55 and strike-rate is 110.
