Chairman of Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) Kazi Inam Ahmed claimed that although it would not be possible in the ODI format, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would organize the DPL in the T20 format, which would be organized on May-June. In that case, the remuneration of the cricketers may be less than the remuneration fixed for the ODI league.
The cricketers, of course, agreed. Inam Ahmed said, “We want to end that league. We will see if the format can be changed.”
In response to the question whether the wages will be reduced in case of T20, he said, the decision will be taken in consultation with the club and Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB).
He said, “It has to be discussed with CWAB, it has to be discussed with the clubs. Our main goal will be to get the players well paid. It is the most important thing. The players have told me before – arrange the tournament, if we have to consider something, we have to cut the fee a little - we can. So we will come to that decision after discussion.”
Inam himself knows that DPL is the main source of income for the local players. Stopping playing for a long time means stopping the earnings of cricketers.
The CCDM chairman said, "How can we start the tournament again so that we can get the players' fees from the clubs…We have to keep the tournament going by thinking about the players. More than two hundred players play in 12 teams. This is the main source of income for many players. Many of them are not even in first-class cricket contracts.”
"You won’t believe how many phone calls I've received from players in the last four months, how difficulties they are facing with their families,” he added. “Even during the T20 tournament, many have said to give them a game at any cost. Thinking about them, we are talking with CWAB again and again. Durjoy Bhai [Naimur Rahman Durjoy], Sujon Bhai [Khaled Mahmud Sujon], the board president [Nazmul Hassan papon] are also thinking about it.”
