Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh's most popular opener and former captain, had a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at BKSP.  His sudden health emergency has caught the attention of the government's top leaders. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus personally called to ask about his situation.

An official statement from the office of the Chief Adviser says that Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder talked to CEO of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nizamuddin Chowdhury to find out what was going on with Tamim's health.

The eighth round of the DPL was held at BKSP on March 24. As usual, he was in charge of the game against Shinepukur on March 24.  But while Tamim was in the field during Shinepukur's turn, he suddenly felt sick.  He said he was uncomfortable and had chest pain, which made the medical team rush to help him.  Because of how dangerous the situation was, a plane was sent right away to take him to a hospital.

Because of how quickly things needed to be handled, Tamim wasn't taken to Dhaka but to a hospital close to BKSP.  According to reports, he was in such bad shape that he wasn't even able to get on the helicopter. Instead, he was rushed to KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar, where an immediate angiogram revealed a blockage in his coronary artery. To restore normal blood flow, doctors performed an angioplasty and placed a stent (ring) in his heart.

Tamim is currently under intensive care in the hospital’s Cardiac Care Unit (CCU).

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury assured that the board is in constant communication with Tamim’s medical team and is ready to provide any necessary support. The Chief Adviser’s office will also receive regular updates on his recovery.
