Bangladesh have tasted the first series over Sri Lanka on their ninth attempt in the format as they hammered the visitors by 103 runs (DLS) in the second ODI at Mirpur. It took efforts of the bowlers restricting Sri Lanka to 141/9, their second lowest against Bangladesh, in an initial run chase of 247. The rain interrupted the game three times - twice in Bangladesh's innings and once in Sri Lanka's. The third interval reduced the target to 245 in 40 overs, with Sri Lanka requiring 119 runs in two overs. Winning the toss, Bangladesh's batting collapsed despite a flying start in the first over off Isuru Udana, who bowled a no ball of the first ball and conceded three boundaries to Tamim Iqbal on the trot. Tamim (13 off 6) fell to Dushmantha Chameera on the first ball of the next over. Shakib Al Hasan followed the suit making a three-ball duck. Out-of-form Liton Das stood around for 42 balls for 25 runs before handing Lakshan Sandakan a first-ball wicket. Mosaddek Hossain (10) edged down the leg-side off Sandakan to leave Bangladesh in tatters on 74/4 in 15.4 overs. It was the pair of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad whose 87-run stand gave the hosts some breathing space before another collapse. In the end, Bangladesh were all-out for 246 runs in 48.1 overs. The dependable Mushfiqur raised his 8th ODI hundred, second against Sri Lanka, as he made 125 runs in 127 balls with 10 boundaries. Mahmudullah chipped in with 41 off 58. Chameera and Sandakan ended as Sri Lanka's best bowlers picking up three wickets each. Bangladesh had to bring Taskin Ahmed back to the XI after Mohammad Saifuddin was struck on his head while batting which had him ruled out of the match. In the process, Taskin became the first concussion substitute player in men's ODI history. Debutant Shoriful Islam made the inroad sending skipper Kusal Perera back for 14. Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib combined to reduce Sri Lanka to 104/6, a near identical situation to that of the first ODI. Wanindu Hasaranga, who threatened Bangladesh with 74 off 60 in that game, perished to Miraz minimising his team's hopes of keeping the series alive. Sri Lanka could not recover as Danushka Gunathilaka's 24 remained their highest individual score of the innings. All top-seven batters got into the double figures but none could make a longer stay in the defeat. Miraz and Mustafizur were dominant with respective three-fors. Shakib took two to equal Mashrafe Bin Mortaza's all-time Bangladesh highest tally (269). The win takes the Tigers (50 points) to No.1 in ICC Cricket World Cup Super League going past England, Australia and Pakistan. The series, now locked on 2-0 to the hosts, will end on May 28. It's another chance for Sri Lanka to bag some points.
