Bangladesh and Pakistan have agreed to change their future bilateral ODI series into a T20I series because the T20 World Cup 2026 is coming up quickly.  A five-match ODI series was planned for Bangladesh to visit Pakistan in May, and a three-match ODI series was planned for Pakistan to visit Bangladesh in July.  Both boards have now decided, though, that all eight games will be played in T20 style instead.

A senior official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), speaking to Prothom Alo, explained the decision, “The upcoming Asia Cup and T20 World Cup are both in the shortest format. Both boards felt it was more beneficial to play more T20Is in preparation for these major tournaments. Pakistan, like Bangladesh, is also undergoing a transition phase, and playing more T20s will help them build a stronger squad.”

Bangladesh have not yet named a T20 captain, even though they have switched to T20 cricket.  The board is taking its time to choose a captain.
