According to reports, former English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff is being considered for England's new white-ball head coach. The future of the current head coach, Matthew Mott, is in jeopardy following England's underwhelming performances in the recent T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup 2023 in India. 

Matthew Mott’s tenure as England’s white-ball coach is under scrutiny after disappointing showings in both the T20 and 50-over World Cups. Rob Key, England's director of cricket, is conducting a thorough review of the white-ball setup. Key has scheduled meetings with Mott and current captain Jos Buttler this week to discuss the path forward.

Initially, 2019 England World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan was a top contender for the coaching position. However, the former captain has withdrawn from consideration.

Morgan, 37, said: “The timing is not right” chiefly because he has a young family and is enjoying his current job as an analyst with Sky Sports.

Recent reports indicate that not only is Matthew Mott's position in jeopardy, but Jos Buttler's captaincy is also under threat. With Mott reportedly resigned to losing his job halfway through his four-year contract, Flintoff is anticipated to step into the role soon.

With the Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner, Rob Key’s meetings with Buttler and Mott this week will be crucial in determining the future direction of England's white-ball cricket.
