Sanju Samson, playing at his explosive best, delivered a brutal six during the fourth T20I against South Africa at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, leaving one spectator injured. The match, held on Friday, November 15, saw India post an imposing total of 283/1, with Samson and Tilak Varma both scoring centuries.
The incident occurred in the 10th over when Samson, on the second ball of the over, smashed a slot-length delivery bowled by Tristan Stubbs over deep midwicket. The ball soared into the stands, where it hit a female spectator who wasn’t paying attention. The impact was significant, striking her face and causing visible pain. She was seen crying as fellow spectators rushed to provide her with an ice pack to alleviate the injury. Despite the unfortunate event, Samson continued his onslaught, scoring a brilliant 109 off just 56 balls.
Tilak Varma also shone with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 120 off 47 balls. The partnership between Samson and Varma was crucial for India, with both batters reaching centuries. This marked Tilak's second consecutive hundred in the series, while Samson made history by becoming the first player to hit three T20I centuries in a calendar year.
South Africa's bowlers struggled throughout the match, with Lutho Sipamla being the only one to claim a wicket. The Proteas will face an uphill task chasing down India’s massive total in the final match of the series.
