South Africa secured a commanding 109-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second Test at St George's Park, Gqeberha, to complete a 2-0 series sweep. The hosts bowled out Sri Lanka for 238 runs while defending a target of 348, climbing to the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 table with this triumph.

This latest win saw South Africa displace reigning champions Australia from the top of the WTC standings. The Proteas now hold 63.33 percentage points after winning six of their 10 Test matches. Australia, who have dropped to second place, trail with 60.71 percentage points.

Batting first, South Africa posted a competitive total of 358 in their first innings, thanks to match-winning contributions from Ryan Rickelton and Kyle Verreynne. Rickelton smashed 101, while Verreynne remained unbeaten on 105*, helping their team establish a strong platform.

In response, Sri Lanka put up a decent fight but were bowled out for 328 runs, keeping the match evenly poised at the halfway stage.

South Africa’s second innings saw captain Temba Bavuma emerge as the top scorer, while Aiden Markram contributed a solid 55 off 75 balls. Sri Lanka's spinner Prabath Jayasuriya grabbed the spotlight with a five-wicket haul, limiting the hosts to 318 and setting the visitors a target of 348.

However, Sri Lanka's chase fell short, managing only 238 runs. South African spinner Keshav Maharaj led the bowling attack with a brilliant five-wicket haul, sealing the victory for his team and helping them move to the top of the WTC table.
