Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan says after the historic win against New Zealand that with the bowling line-up they have, it will be hard for the opponent to score 160 in T20Is.

Afghanistan crashed New Zealand to register the victory by 84 runs on Saturday (8th June) at Providence Stadium, Guyana. Rahmanullah Gurbaz's blistering 80 off only 56 deliveries powered Afghanistan to a big total of 159 runs on a tough deck. In reply, the Afghan bowlers showcased their class to tear apart the Kiwi batting lineup and hand Afghanistan a thumping 84-run victory.

Fazalhaq Farooqi, Rashid Khan both got 4 wickets and Mohammad Nabi took 2 wickets. Farooqi started it all off with the new ball, much like he did against Uganda. Finn Allen was dismissed in the first ball, and Devon Conway followed soon after. Mitchell couldn't get going either, leaving New Zealand at 28-3.

Things did not get any better for the Kiwis after that. Rashid then entered the battle and bamboozled the batters, taking four wickets, including Williamson, Chapman, and Bracewell. Nabi contributed Santner's wicket, while Farooqi added his fourth to complete the victory.

“With the bowling unit we have, we will give tough competition to the opposition, as long as we hit the right areas consistently. The spinners and especially the seamers, the way Nabi bowled the second over - that gave us a sign the ball was turning. The skill we have as a bowling unit, if we use that, it will be hard for the opposition to score 160,” Rashid said.

“The way Farooqi has bowled has been amazing. He is a skillful bowler. Some things to be improved but once he understands how skillful he is, he will be an even dangerous bowler.”

Afghanistan started slowly in batting. Openers- Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran scored just 55 runs in the first 10 overs. But then they turned around the thing with aggressive batting and consecutive 100-run partnership. Rashid praises both the batters and says that there was no panic among them about the run-rate because the pitch was tricky. “The way Ibrahim and Gurbaz started again…the wicket was not easy. They did not throw away their wickets in overs 7-10. Great win for Afghanistan and it is a privilege to be leading this side and winning against NZ. They were the set batters and we told them it was fine. We wanted to make sure we played positively from that point and wanted them to play their natural game. The way they took responsibility was great,” Rashid added.
