Scotland captain Richie Berrington backs his players and said to keep their head high despite a heartbreaking loss to Australia knocked them out of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
Australia beat lionhearted Scotland by 5 wickets and just 2 balls to spare to remain their unbeaten streak on and helped England progress for the next round, while with this loss Scotland have been knocked out of the tournament despite a tremendous season they've had.
Scottish captain Berrington said they couldn’t capitalize towards the end and the few big overs from Head and Stoinis changed the scenario of the game.
"It's great learning for us, great experience for the guys. We're disappointed because we were in a position where we could win.
"[Australia] have great ball strikers all the way through the team and a few big overs in the back end got them back into the game and made it hard to pull back."
Scotland had a stellar T20 WC 2024 campaign, shared one point with their counterparts England, thrashed Oman and Namibia to see the dreams of Super-Eight before facing Aussies, where they lost the game in a close contest.
Their captain Berrington urged the players to keep their head high.
"The guys can hold their heads high in terms of how they've played their cricket throughout this tournament."
Scotland will host Australia for a three match T20I series in the September.
