Rishabh Pant displayed an exceptional performance on Wednesday night at the Arun Jaitley stadium in an IPL 2024 match against the Gujarat Titans. Pant delivered an awe-inspiring performance, scoring an unbeaten 88 runs off just 43 balls, enabling DC to set a colossal total of 224 for four in their allotted 20 overs. His performance was filled with eight sixes and five fours. It appeared that GT had a shortage of fielders on the pitch, as Pant effortlessly hit boundaries.
With his signature aggressive style, Pant notched his third half-century of the season in a commanding manner and showcased an astonishing exhibition of power-hitting in the last over, accumulating 31 runs off Mohit Sharma. However, one of his shots, which was a six, appeared to cause an injury to one of the broadcast cameramen.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) shared a post-match video with Pant and head coach Ricky Ponting side by side. Pant, in a touching apology to the camera, said:
"Sorry Debashish bhai, did not intend to hit you, but I think you can recover well and good luck."
"One of the camerapersons from our BCCI Production Crew got hit during the DC vs GT match. Rishabh Pant - Delhi Capitals' captain and Player of the Match - has a special message for the cameraperson," the caption read.
Rishabh Pant leads Delhi Capitals in runs and is third in Orange Cap. A 161.32 strike rate has helped him score 342 runs in nine innings.
Delhi's T20 playoff dreams have been saved by the 26-year-old's return to form. Pant's performances with the bat and behind the stumps boost his case for a key role in India's T20 World Cup victory.
“Nortje was having a tough time. T20 is a funny game, after 14-15 overs the ball was coming on nicely. So we wanted to trust Rasikh, always trust someone who is bowling well in a game. I think it is about instincts as a captain, it will come off sometimes. Happy it worked today. Surely at 43/3, we wanted to just keep going and target their main spinners,” Pant said at the post-match presentation where he was awarded the player of the match.
"Every day that I'm in the middle, I feel better. Every hour on the field matters, I love being on the field. I try to give it my 100% and it takes some time sometimes. I think the first six in the match gives me the confidence in a game. The more time I spend in the center, the better I feel." He added talking about his return from injury.
