Smith playing key role to nail down Aussie pay dispute

Australian captain Steve Smith has been reportedly playing a key role behind the curtains to bring conflicting parties under a unanimous roof to settle the ongoing pay dispute between Cricket Australia (CA) and Australian Cricketers Association (ACA). Absence of new contract has left 230 male and female cricketers of Australia jobless and as bilateral international schedules with Bangladesh and India are approaching, pressure building upon both sides to come to a hasty solution. Over the past few days, captain Steve Smith conducted several telephone conversations and meetings with officials of Cricket Australia and Australian Cricketers’ Association. The Daily Telegraph reported, Smith, being a man of players are backing ACA and intimate support for its revenue sharing model and ‘peace plan.’ Since the beginning of the dispute, Steve Smith has been in touch with Alastair Nicholson, the chief of ACA. The Daily Telegraph quoted James Sutherland, the CEO of CA saying, “Steve would find himself in a difficult position. Someone like Mark Taylor, who was really in the middle of those negotiations when that first MOU was struck in 1997 — at times he reflects on how difficult and challenging a period that was.” “I have nothing but the highest respect for Steve Smith and his values and ideals. He loves the game and I know he as much as anyone in Australian cricket wants to see the Australian cricket team back playing and him leading them back onto the ground in Dhaka (in August),” he added.
