The match, held on Saturday (July 27), saw India take to the crease first, posting an impressive total of 213 runs. The opening duo of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal were in exceptional form, accumulating 74 runs during the powerplay.

Shubman Gill blasted 34 runs off just 16 balls, including six boundaries and one maximum, while Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered 40 runs off 21 deliveries, hitting five fours and two sixes. Their aggressive start laid the groundwork for the middle-order to capitalise and set a formidable target for Sri Lanka.

Gill and Jaiswal's synergy at the crease was evident, with Gill noting their complementary styles and effective communication. "Not really (panicked). We spoke about having good communication and we knew we just needed one wicket (when SL were 140/1). It is great batting with him (Jaiswal) and we complement each other. Our style is different, our plan is simple - assess the conditions and then take on the bowlers. When you are opening the innings, see how the pitch is behaving and play accordingly (that's the plan)," Gill shared during the post-match presentation.
