India captain Rohit Sharma should bat in the middle order in the Test match in Brisbane, said Cheteshwar Pujara. Ahead of the 3rd Test match, scheduled to begin on December 14, Pujara argued that Rohit should sacrifice his position for the sake of the future of Indian cricket.
Rohit Sharma should continue to bat in the middle order, says Cheteshwar Pujara. Pujara wants KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal to remain in the top order for India's future.
Sharma, who skipped the first Test match of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, had a terrible outing in the pink-ball Test match in Adelaide, scoring a total of 9 runs in two innings. Rohit was constantly struggling on his off and middle stumps, losing his wicket to Scott Boland and Pat Cummins.
Speaking on Media, Pujara urged Rohit to work on his technique and argued that a bigger front-foot step could help him in Australia. Pujara also argued that Rohit should sacrifice his place as an opener for KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, thinking of the future of the Indian team.
"He didn't score many runs against New Zealand and didn't have a good start in Australia, so there is pressure on him to perform. But someone like him, who knows his game, just needs to be more positive and work a little more on his footwork. If he has a little bigger step, that will help him," Cheteshwar Pujara said in a video by ESPNcricinfo ahead of the Test match in Brisbane.
The third Test match of the series will be played at the iconic Gabba. The game will start at 5:50 AM IST on 14 December.
