Afghanistan leg-spinner Qais Ahmad will represent Kent in the T20 Blast and County Championship this English summer. Qais Ahmad signs up for County Championship, T20 Blast

Ahmad is the sixth man from Afghanistan to sign up for this year's T20 Blast, after Rashid Khan (Sussex), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Middlesex), Mohammad Nabi (Northamptonshire) and Naveen-ul-Haq (Leicestershire). "I'm excited to play in the Vitality Blast and I'm really looking forward to being a Kent Spitfire. Having played alongside Daniel Bell-Drummond at Colombo Kings, I have heard good things about Kent and I will give it my all," Ahmad said. The 20-year-old will play two County Championship matches as well for Kent, against Lancashire at Old Trafford and Sussex at Beckenham. Should he get selected, he will play his first first-class game since debuting in Test against Bangladesh in 2019. "We're delighted to welcome a leg-spinner of Qais Ahmad's class to Kent as we look to bring some variety to our attack ahead of the Vitality Blast. He will also be available to play in a couple of County Championship matches for us," Paul Dawnton, Kent Cricket director said. "Qais Ahmad is an exciting talent who has shown his ability in top quality leagues all over the world. I am confident that his enthusiasm for the game will make him a firm favourite with our Members and supporters as we look to welcome crowds back to watching live cricket again." Ahmad has another tournament in the UK to take part in. He was signed by Welsh Fire at the draft of The Hundred in February. Ahmad has played T20 leagues in Australia, Bangladesh, West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He was supposed to join Gloucestershire last year but the stint was cancelled due to pandemic.
