Aakash Chopra, a well-known cricket pundit, offered his opinions on Ricky Ponting's selection to lead the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 Indian Premier League. In a recent YouTube video, Chopra talked about the possible influence Ponting would have on the team's foundation, anticipating a change from a squad dominated by players from England to one dominated by Australians.

Punjab Kings finished a disappointing ninth in IPL 2024, and despite numerous changes in leadership and strategy over the years, the franchise has struggled to find its winning formula. However, with Ponting now at the helm, expectations are high for a major turnaround. According to Chopra, one of the key changes could be the team's overseas contingent, with Ponting likely to bring in more Australian talent while phasing out some of the English stars currently in the squad.

"What will you expect from Ricky Ponting? Firstly, I feel the gathering of English players there will be removed. Everyone will be sent, those bought for 18 crores or 12 crores. You won't have so many English players there now. Now there will be some change there. Now you will have Australian players there," Chopra stated.

Chopra’s prediction comes as no surprise, considering Ponting’s strong connection with Australian players throughout his coaching career. He pointed out that Ponting's arrival could signal the exit of several high-profile England players, potentially making room for Australian cricketers who are familiar with Ponting's style and strategies.

"You will find that the Australian players in the Delhi Capitals camp will be released and some of them will become a part of Ricky Ponting's Punjab Kings. I am not saying he is biased but wherever you see Ricky, you find a slightly bigger Australian contingent there because he knows them well," Chopra added.
