At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, on Sunday, Punjab Kings (PBKS) played against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Punjab Kings only fielded one foreign player.

Many players returned home for national duty or injuries, leaving South Africa batter Rilee Rossouw as the only foreign player in the playing XI. This is the first instance in the history of IPL where only one foreign player gets a place in the playing XI. 

Wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma led the team throughout the match in place of usual captain Shikhar Dhawan, who was sidelined by injury, and stand-in captain Sam Curran. South Afrcia pacer Kagiso Rabada returned home due to injury. Three English stars Jonny Bairstow, Curran and Liam Livingstone left the IPL to play the T20I series against Pakistan. Australia pacer Nathan Ellis, who was in the eleven of the last match, did not play in today's match.

“We have few options because all the overseas have gone gone. Only Rilee Rossouw is gonna play. We have exciting talent waiting for their opportunity and they are gonna give their best today. Nothing to lose today, we are here to play some good cricket,” Jitesh said during the toss.

However, Punjab could not win the match. Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Punjab Kings by 4 wickets in the match. Abhishek Sharma's swashbuckling 66 and then Heinrich Klaasen's monstrous 42 helped SRH chase down the massive 215 to jump to the second spot of the IPL.
