Pretty happy with the performance as a whole: Markram after USA win
Markram also says that the wicket became slower as the game passed by, so the total of 194 runs was enough. However, he thinks there are lessons to take from the game. Markram also shares joy for de Kock’s outstanding innings.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram feels satisfied after their win against USA in the Super Eight of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday (June 19) in North Sound. They beat USA by 18 runs.
After being asked to bat first, South Africa scored 194 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs on a good batting pitch. The total was set up by Quinton de Kock's maiden half-century of the tournament, a fifth-wicket partnership of 53 between Heinrich Klaasen and Tristan Stubbs, Aiden Markram’s 46-run innings. Quinton de Kock scored 74 runs off 40 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes.
In the chase, Steven Taylor gave USA a strong start, and then Andries Gous’ 80-run innings kept USA in the contest till the end. But a great spell from Kagiso Rabada specially just 2 runs in 19th over when USA needed 28 runs from 2 overs gave South Africa the win. Rabada took 3 wickets for just 18 runs in 4 overs.
Markram also says that the wicket became slower as the game passed by, so the total of 194 runs was enough. However, he thinks there are lessons to take from the game. Markram also shares joy for de Kock’s outstanding innings.
“Pretty happy with the performance as a whole. A couple of overs here and there we need to tidy up. I think you always feel you need more runs. But the wicket definitely changes and gets a bit slower, and they were a lot less sloppy. A couple of lessons to take, but nice for the batters to be in the middle and get some runs, especially for Quinny [De Kock] to really get his flow,” Markram said.
