Set to score 289 runs for a major win West Indies appeared cruising at a stage lost their way for their one dimensional approach. Captain Holder and all rounder Brathwaite fell into the trap that Australians laid. West Indies could reach 273/9 losing by 15 runs. Poor umpiring took some gloss out of the high voltage match. Several mistakes required almost half a dozen DRS . Australians sensing poor umpiring kept on appealing . West Indies knows one way of batting only, belting the ball with brute force. They fell in the trap of Aron Flinch strategy. M Starc is one of the top death over bowlers in the world. His penetration and accuracy led West Indies losing their way from a seemingly winning position. Australia won by 15 runs surviving a great Caribbean scare. Australia was put into bat. West Indian fast bowling battery in no time created shock and awe in Australian camp. Flinch, Warner, Khawaja and Maxwell were blown away in no time. Thomas, Cottrell , Russel and Holder were looking menacing .  Only Smith stood his ground firm. As the white balls started getting soft Australians carefully counter attacked. Even Stoinis left after putting up some resistance. Most teams would have succumbed from 4/38 and 5/79. But Kangarooss have large strong pair of hind legs and a large tail. Kangaroo tail wagged. Smith shepherded Australia left nothing unturned. Coulter –Nile played a blinder. His 60 balls 92 featuring 8 fours and 4 sixes lead Australia reaching 288 which was unbelievable destination as top five were gone doing little. Smith held the innings together defying all onslaughts. His 73 in 103 balls rescued Australia from total disaster. West Indian pacers shared the wickets, Brathwaite with 3/67 was the peak . Russell (2/41) , Cottrell (2/46) , Thomas( 2/63) were equally menacing . But they kept on bowling in one length even when balls got softer and movement was gone. West Indies missed a wicket taking or a containing spinner . Chasing 289 against a very potent Australian attack was not going to be easy. On top of that lop sided umpiring (definitely mistakes ) marred the beauty of the contest. Gayle had to requested for DRS three times (twice successful) before getting out . At least half a dozen mistakes were made. Hope ICC would take notice of it. Even after all these West Indies were well on course . At 6/216 in the 39^th over with Holder and Brathwaite at the wicket victory was well in sight. The great death bowler Starc was strategically held back till the last 5 overs and he delivered.  Holder , Braithwaite and Cottrell fell to Starc like a pack of cards. West Indies could reach 273/9 still 15 runs short of the target. They lost a golden opportunity of winning and brightening their prospect for a knock out round appearance. Starc took 5/ 46 and Cummins 2/41. Coulter-Nile for his exploits with the bat was adjudged player of the match.
