Devdutt Padikkal (born July 7, 2000) is an Indian cricketer who plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He made his international debut for the Indian cricket team in July 2021. He has also played for India's U19 national team.
Early life
Padikkal was born on July 7, 2000 in Edappal, Kerala to Ambili Padikkal and Babu Kunnath. In 2011 his family moved from Hyderabad to Bangalore, where he began his education at the Karnataka Institute of Cricket. From 2014 he represented Karnataka in the age categories under 16 and under 19 years. In 2017 he was selected to the Karnataka Premier League by Bellary Tuskers.
Career
He made his first-class debut for Karnataka on November 28, 2018 at the Ranji Trophy 2018/19. In December 2018 he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the player auction for the Indian Premier League 2019. He became the first player in IPL history to score three fifties in his first four games.
He made his debut in List A on September 26, 2019 for Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20. He was the tournament's leading run scorer with 609 runs in eleven games.
In October 2019 he was named to the India A squad for the Deodhar Trophy 2019-20. He made his Twenty20 debut on November 8, 2019 for Karnataka in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Padikkal won the Emerging Player Award for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and played for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In his first IPL season, he scored 473 runs in 15 games for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was selected in Karnataka's squad for the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. On April 22, 2021, in the 2021 Indian Premier League, Padikkal scored 101 points when the Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the Rajasthan Royals by ten wickets.
In June 2021 he was called up to the Indian squads One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) for their series against Sri Lanka. He made his T20I debut for India against Sri Lanka on July 28, 2021.
