Tamil Nadu's N Jagadeesan shatters world records with record-breaking 277-run innings

Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan has become the first player in the history of List A cricket to score five consecutive hundreds. He surpassed former Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara, South African batsman Alviro Petersen, and Karnataka opener Devdutt Padikkal, who all had four consecutive century in the 50-over format.
Jagadeesan accomplished the feat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium against Arunachal Pradesh during the sixth round of Elite Group C competition in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022. On Monday, Jagadesan was in commanding form as he and fellow Tamil Nadu opener B Sai Sudarsan made a partnership of more than 250 runs against the Arunachal attack. But the most significant record is his innings of 277 runs off just 141 balls with 25 fours and 15 sixes.
He surpassed England's Alistair Brown. He was at the top till now by playing an innings of 268 runs. This record was held by Brown for 20 years i.e. 2002. While Brown has the record of 268 runs in men's cricket, Sri Lanka's female cricketer Sripali Weerakkody had the highest innings of 271 runs in list A cricket history men and women combined. Jagadeesan has surpassed that record today.
Jagadeesan scored a double century off 114 balls. which jointly occupied the top spot. Australian batsman Travis Head also holds the record of scoring a double century off 114 balls. Jagadeesan's strike rate in this innings is 196.45 which is the highest in List A cricket. Earlier, Travis Head was on top with 181.10.
Thanks to Jagadeesan's innings, his team Tamil Nadu collected 506 runs in 50 overs. This is also the highest team total in List A cricket. Earlier, England had a record of 498 runs. England set the record this year against Netherlands in an international match.
Jagadeesan made a record partnership of 416 runs with Sai Sudarsan in this match. This is the first 400-run partnership in List A cricket.
