A new selection committee has been announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This project comes in the wake of Pakistan's underwhelming performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the squad was unable to go past the group stage.
Famous former cricket players Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, as well as respected coaches Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten, are on the committee.
Shan Masood and Babar Azam, the captains of the men's white-ball and red-ball teams, will also be important persons in the selection process.
The committee's first priority is to choose the team for the two-match Test series that Pakistan will host against Bangladesh the following month.
Notably, Bilal Afzal will have a new function inside the PCB and will not be a member of the new selection committee. Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla and data analyst Hassan Cheema are also not included in the selection committee. It is noteworthy that Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz, two former cricket players, were recently kicked off Pakistan's selection committee.
The PCB's strategic action is intended to give the squad new perspectives and vigor. With coaches and players with experience, supporters are hopeful about better results in upcoming games.
