Abahani Limited registered a commanding 133-run victory over Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) 2024-25, thanks to an all-round performance from Mosaddek Hossain Saikat and solid contributions from the top order.

On a warm day at BKSP Ground 4, Abahani won the toss and opted to bat first. Although they suffered an early blow with the dismissal of opener Jishan Alam for 13, the innings soon found stability through a well-constructed partnership between Parvez Hossain Emon and Najmul Hossain Shanto.

The duo took control of the innings, both notching up confident fifties to lay the foundation for a big total. Emon played a fluent knock of 79 off 71 balls before falling with the team score at 152, while Shanto followed shortly after for a composed 58 off 70 balls.

The middle order couldn’t fully capitalize on the platform, with short cameos from Mohammad Mithun (15 off 19), Mominul Haque (17 off 24), and Mahfuzur Rabbi (14 off 30). However, it was Mosaddek Hossain who provided the late push with a crucial 37 off 42 balls. Ripon Mondol added an unbeaten 17 from just 9 balls to power Abahani to 290/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers for Prime Bank, taking 4 wickets, while Naim Ahmed bagged 3. Arafat Sunny and Khaled Ahmed chipped in with one wicket apiece.

In response, Prime Bank had a nightmare start, losing four wickets inside 34 runs. The top order crumbled under relentless pressure from the Abahani attack, with Sabbir Hossain, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Sazzadul Haque, and Zakir Hasan all departing cheaply.

Only opener Naim Sheikh showed real resistance, fighting valiantly with a well-made 73 off 74 deliveries. He received some brief support from Irfan Sukkur (15 off 23) and a late cameo from Shamim Hossain Patwari, who blasted 40 off 26 balls to reduce the margin of defeat.

Despite Shamim’s efforts, the rest of the lineup failed to stand tall. Prime Bank were eventually bowled out for 157 in just 32 overs, handing Abahani a thumping 133-run win.

Mosaddek starred with the ball as well, picking up 3 wickets to complete his all-round show. Rakibul Hasan took 2 wickets, while Mahfuzur Rabbi, Jishan Alam, SM Meherob Hasan, and Nahid Rana each picked up one wicket.
