Former South African pacer Morne Morkel will join the Pakistan national team as bowling coach for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka next month.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the appointment of former South African pacemaker Morne Morkel as the national team's bowling coach.

Morne is expected to join the Pakistan team's coaching staff during the upcoming two-game Test series against Sri Lanka, which is scheduled for next month.

Morne Morkel will join the Pakistan national cricket team on a six-month deal. The former Pacer is expected to travel to Sri Lanka with the Pakistan side for the series, which will be played in July. He previously missed being part of the team for the New Zealand series due to IPL commitments.

The PCB made an official announcement on Friday regarding the appointment of Morne Morkel. The board has cleared the 16-man roster for the upcoming Test series, which represents their first assignment of the 2023–25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Grant Bradburn will serve as the series' head coach, while Andrew Puttick and Morkel will serve as batting and bowling coaches, respectively. Pakistan cricket team director Mickey Arthur is not on the list of coaches for the tour.

The 38-year-old will take over the position, replacing Umar Gul, the former Pakistani fast bowler who served as interim bowling coach during the team's previous series against New Zealand.

Over the course of his 11-year international career, Morkel achieved notable success, taking 309 wickets in 86 Test matches, 188 wickets in 117 ODIs and 47 scalps in 44 T20Is.

His last international appearance came in September 2017 in Lahore for the world selection against Pakistan.
