The ICC U19 World Cup is underway in South Africa. So far Bangladesh have won and lost 1 match in two matches. But this time Bangladesh team got a bad news. They are currently third in the points table with 2 points.
In their first match in the tournament, the youth of Bangladesh entered the field against the India U19 team. In that match, Maruf Mridha took 5 wickets at the cost of 43 runs for the Junior Tigers. However, he was punished by the ICC due to his aggressive behavior on the field. In the 44th over of India's innings, Maruf dismissed Aravelly Avanish and then Maruf aggressively pointed him twice towards the dressing room to signal him to leave. By doing this, Maruf Mridha violated Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Contact “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.” Maruf has been charged with breaching this clause. He has breached Level One of the ICC Code of Contact.
ICC gave him 1 demerit point as punishment. This demerit point will be valid for 24 months. If the demerit points become 4, the accused cricketer will be banned for 2 ODIs, 2 T20Is or 1 Test as per the rules.
