India's National Cricket Team Player KL Rahul reached a significant career milestone on Thursday, surpassing 3,000 runs in Test cricket during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Perth. Playing his 54th Test, the 31-year-old achieved this feat with a gritty knock of 26 runs off 74 balls, laced with three boundaries.
However, the right-hander's inning ended in controversy after being caught behind off a Mitchell Starc delivery. There was doubt about whether the ball had made contact with the bat or the pad, but the third umpire, Richard Illingworth, ruled in favor of the Australians, overturning the on-field umpire's decision.
Across 54 Test matches, Rahul has now accumulated 3,007 runs at an average of 33.78. His career includes eight centuries and 15 fifties, with a highest score of 199. While Rahul has shown flashes of brilliance, his overall Test average has been a topic of discussion, with many considering it below par for an established Indian batter.
In addition to his Test achievements, Rahul has also made significant contributions in limited-overs cricket. He has scored 2,851 runs in ODIs and 2,265 runs in T20Is for India. Notably, he played a key role in India’s journey to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he top-scored for the team in their defeat to Australia.
