In a major development for Pakistan cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the appointment of former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie as the new white-ball coach, following Gary Kirsten’s resignation just six months into his tenure. The decision comes as Pakistan prepares for a crucial tour of Australia and Zimbabwe, marking a significant change in the team's coaching leadership.

Gary Kirsten, who signed a two-year contract with the PCB in April 2024, unexpectedly stepped down, leaving Pakistan without a head coach just ahead of the Australia series. The PCB swiftly appointed Gillespie, who will serve as the interim white-ball coach for Pakistan’s upcoming tour of Australia, beginning on November 4.

The tour includes three ODIs and three T20Is against Australia, with the first match scheduled to take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This series is crucial for Pakistan’s preparations ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy next year, and as a former Australian player Gillespie’s extensive coaching experience will be instrumental in guiding the team through these key fixtures.

Gillespie, who previously served as Pakistan's Test team coach, is known for his strategic mindset and his ability to build strong team dynamics. Under his guidance, Pakistan recently defeated the England team 2-1 in a Test series.
