Axar Patel, the seasoned all-rounder for the Delhi Capitals (DC), took over as captain after skipper Rishabh Pant was banned by the BCCI during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, Skipper Pant was suspended because his team continued to play at a slower rate for the third time this season,he miss the vital match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a result of that. 

Axar Patel made the calculated choice to bowl first after winning the toss in order to put pressure on the visiting Royal Challengers Bengaluru team. The game was expected to be heated because RCB needed to win badly to maintain their hopes of making the playoff.

However during the toss he explained the frustration of DC captain Rishabh Pants "Rishabh was angry about being banned, bowlers are late but the captain gets punished. But he's at the ground, is motivated and has told us not to feel like he's not with us and focus on the process," Patel said at the toss against Bengaluru.
