India destroyed the reigning champions England, bowling them out for a meager 103 after scoring 171 runs with a great batting display on a tough pitch.
After being asked to bat first, though India lost two wickets of Virat Kohli (9 runs off 9 balls) and Rishabh Pant (4 runs off 6 balls) within powerplay, captain Rohit Sharma maintained the scoring rate with his flurry of shots. Rohit and Suryakumar made a match-winning 73-run partnership for the third wicket which helped India to post an above-par score on a pitch, where the pace was slow and the bounce was low, and also a huge turn for the spinners.
Rohit carried his form from the last game as he picked up his second straight half-century in the match. He scored 57 runs off 39 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Suryakumar Yadav scored 47 runs off 36 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. After that, Hardik Pandya (23 runs off 13 balls), Ravindra Jadeja (17* runs off 9 balls) and Axar Patel (10 runs off 6 balls) ensured the continuity of the momentum, and India scored 171 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Chris Jordan was the best bowler for England with 3 wickets.
In the chase, England captain Jos Buttler started off well but when his wicket and England’s first wicket fell in the 4th over, England lost their way from there and continued to struggle throughout the whole innings. The spinners of India dismantled the England batters as only four batters touched the double-digit score. They were bundled out for just 103 runs in 16.4 overs. Harry Brook was the best batter for England with 25 runs from 19 balls. Buttler scored 23 runs off 15 balls.
Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav both took 3 wickets each while Jasprit Bumrah got 2 wickets for India.
India will face South Africa in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.
